At Jollydays we have created a unique tented camp, close to nature and the rhythms of the season – take a journey back to simpler times, a place to talk, laugh, relax and reflect with hot showers and BBQ’s.
The accommodation is unlike “normal” camping standards – with proper beds, fires, toilets, hot showers, BBQ’s and kitchen facilities. We are not comparable however with a hotel, so you won’t find sockets, Televisions or electric lights – it is still a tent with no insulation.
Converted to glamping after this! Fantastic time and 3 year old wants to stay on without us! Great success. The Oswalds, Edinburgh,
Adult Group Bookings
We only accept large adult groups outside of the school holidays. We ask for a refundable cash bond to be paid two weeks prior to your arrival. For our policy on Groups & Alcohol please see our Group & Team Stays page
Light Levels in the Tents
There are candles and tea lights in all tents and a small electric light in the kitchen of the Woodland and Lodge tents. The thick canvas blends into the woodland, this creates a cosy feeling of darkness inside, especially during the short days of the cooler months and nights. Electricity is very limited which makes for a romantic and nostalgic experience. The communal toilets and showers all have electric lights.
Part of the attraction of the camp is being close to nature and wildlife. Insects such as wasps and spiders may enter the tents in summer. Mammals such as deer and badgers may come onto the decks at night and in autumn woodmice – preparing for hibernation, may attempt to sneak into tents looking for food.
For some tents cars may pull up outside to unload/ load. Once unloaded cars need to be moved to the car park near the entrance to the site due to Emergency access, safety for excited children who tend to forget about moving vehicles and also cars spoil the woodland view for other people.
So what do I take to Jollydays?
We try to provide as much as we can but you will need toiletries, food and a torch (it’s pitch black at night in the woods). In regards to food, you can book supper baskets and breakfasts in advance to be delivered to your tent so you don’t even have to bother with food shopping.
When you arrive at camp you are given an allocation of candles, tea lights, firelighters and matches. If you need more than the allocated amount, the log store and shop are open between 9-10am and 4-5pm everyday, where you can get more of these.
Just some reminders about general camping
During cold weather you will have to wrap up warm, preferably in layers and maybe bring an extra sleeping bag (our quilts are 13 tog, but a sleeping bag will make you extra toasty). Also with the main source of heat being a fire, wood smoke is going to be around most of the time, so smart clothes should be kept well out of the way. As the tents can’t be locked it is best to leave valuables at home.
We ask that the only fires are in your wood-burning stove and BBQ. No fires are allowed in the woodland, this is to minimise fire risk as much as possible. Fire procedures are in place for vacating tents, for your own peace of mind we’ll reinforce this information on arrival.
What about Cleaning
The tent will be cleaned before you arrive and when you leave; we also do provide you with mops and brushes.
Children have a great time at Jollydays as they can make new friends and roam with relative freedom. However their safety is, of course still your responsibility. Once off the beaten tracks we don’t fence off the wood nor do we monitor anywhere with CCTV – it’s a wild woodland, watercourses and plant life are untamed so can prove to be dangerous to little ones. Spend time with them in the woods so you are happy and they know what to expect.
For wildlife protection reasons and camp lease agreements, only guide dogs and our own camp dog Binny, is allowed on site.
We do not allow smoking in the tents! We provide bins for cigarette butts if you do smoke.
